Unemployment in TRNC Remains Below 5%: Fresh Labour Market Data Released
The Statistical Institute of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has published the results of the Labour Force Survey for the third quarter of 2025. According to the report, the unemployment rate in the country stood at 4.7%.
In the period fr om July to September 2025, the number of unemployed people was 9,429. The total number of employed residents reached 189,791. The working-age population exceeded 377,000, while the labour force participation rate was 52.8%.
Men continue to dominate the labour market: they account for 65.8% of all employed persons, with a male employment rate of 62.2%. For women, these figures are significantly lower — 34.2% and 36.8% respectively.
The employment structure remains traditional for the TRNC:
Services sector — 75.4% of all employed
Construction — 11.5%
Industry — 10.5%
Agriculture — 2.7%
More than one third of the working population has education below secondary level or no diploma at all. At the same time, a significant portion of the population has completed secondary school or vocational education.
Against this background, the situation in Southern Cyprus stands out, wh ere unemployment continues to rise. In April 2026, the number of unemployed there increased to 10,585 people — 10.4% higher than in the same period last year.
Experts note that maintaining a low unemployment rate in the TRNC remains one of the key factors of the country’s economic stability, despite regional and international challenges.
