Tourist Residence Permit in Türkiye Again Available, the Threshold of $200,000 is not a Barrier

As we know, in 2023 there were massive refusals to obtain and renew a residence permit.

But there is good news! By the beginning of the tourist season, at the end of April 2024, foreigners again have the right to obtain a tourist residence permit for 6 months based on a rental agreement and under the “new” TAPU below $200,000 in open areas.

!! This concerns specifically tourist residence permits for both buyers and tenants. If the area is open and the property value is above $200,000, you can apply for a residence permit under TAPU, which gives the right to apply for citizenship after 5 years of continuous extension and residence in Turkey.

If you already have an Ikamet, you can extend it for 6 months, but subject to having a bank account and the required amount in it. For the initial application for a tourist residence permit, a bank account is not required.

The applicant's consent to comply with the requirements of the requested residence permit is also required in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 6458 on Aliens and International Protection during their stay in Türkiye.

A residence permit does not give the right to work in Türkiye, you need to hawe a work permit issued by the employer.

In case of renewal of a tourist residence permit, you will need to confirm your income in the amount of 1 minimum wage in Türkiye (17,002 TL) + the amount of compulsory insurance per month, through a bank account operating in the Republic of Türkiye.

It is already known about the internal order in Turkish Migration Service regarding residence permits for rentals and the abolition of the $200,000 threshold. There are no official publications yet.
