Tourism in Türkiye in Q2 2025

According to the data of the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), tourism income in the second quarter of 2025 (April–June) increased by 8.4% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 16.28 billion USD.

Of this amount, 16.09 billion USD came from foreign visitors, and 189 million USD from transit passengers. At the same time, 16.5% of all income came from Turkish citizens residing abroad.

Individual trips provided 11.1 billion USD of income, while package tours accounted for almost 5 billion USD.


Tourist flow continues to grow

The number of visitors departing from the country increased by 2% and reached 16.41 million people. Among them, 2.68 million were Turkish citizens permanently residing abroad.

The average expenditure per night for tourists departing from the country was 110 USD, and for Turkish citizens residing abroad — 73 USD.


Expenses of Turkish citizens abroad increased by 41%

Turkish citizens traveling abroad spent 2.76 billion USD in the second quarter, which is 41.1% more than a year earlier.

Of this amount, 1.85 billion USD were individual expenses, and 909 million USD were package tour expenses.

The number of Turkish citizens traveling abroad decreased by 0.5% to 2.95 million people, with an average expenditure per person of 936 USD.


Domestic tourism: fewer trips, but higher spending

In the second quarter of 2025, 13.9 million residents of Türkiye made domestic trips with at least one overnight stay — 13.9% fewer than a year earlier. A total of 17.08 million trips and 99.2 million overnight stays were recorded, with an average of 5.8 nights per trip.

Total domestic tourism expenditures increased by 13.4% and reached 116.93 billion Turkish liras. Of these, 85.2% were individual trips, and 14.8% were package tours. The average expenditure per trip reached 6,848 liras.

The largest share of expenditures was for:

  • Food and drinks — 30.1%

  • Transportation — 25.8%

  • Accommodation — 15.7%

The main purpose of domestic trips was visiting relatives (60.3%), followed by travel and leisure (32.2%) and health (3%).

Most domestic visitors stayed at friends’ or relatives’ homes (68.7 million overnight stays), followed by their own homes (13.9 million) and hotels (9.7 million).
