The Municipality of Alanya Established the Foreign Citizens’ Council

The first meeting of the New Alanya Citizens’ Council, which will operate under the umbrella of the Culture and Tourism Commission, was held in Alanya. The event attracted significant interest from foreign residents in the region, many of whom expressed a desire to actively participate in the work of future commissions.

In his opening speech, the Mayor of Alanya, Mr. Osman Tarık Özçelik, emphasized the importance of cultural unity and diversity. He noted that Alanya is home to representatives of more than 130 nationalities, making the city a unique center of an international community.

“As your mayor, I want to make it clear that we do not see you as foreigners. We accept you as New Alanyans, equal members of our society!” the mayor stated while addressing the participants.

He also reminded the audience that the idea of creating a Foreigners’ Assembly had been discussed for two decades and has now been officially established under the Culture and Tourism Commission. The new Council will contribute to more open and effective representation of the interests of foreign residents.

The Mayor of Alanya urged associations, organizations, and individuals to support this initiative, emphasizing that the Council will become a platform for addressing pressing issues and engaging with government structures. Additionally, the Council plans to establish subcommittees to address specific issues and foster dialogue between various cultural communities.

Special attention will be given to young people. The Council's structure will include a Youth Committee that will bring together representatives of the younger generation from different countries.

The municipality guarantees the prompt review of applications for participation in the Council to ensure representation of all layers of the international community. Mr. Özçelik called on residents to jointly build the future of Alanya based on peace, unity, and prosperity.
