Türkiye and Northern Cyprus to Build Gas Pipeline, Launch Planned for 2028

Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) have announced plans to construct a gas pipeline approximately 97 kilometers long. The project is expected to become an important step in developing the region’s energy infrastructure.

According to Turkish officials, engineering and design work is set to be completed within this year. The pipeline is scheduled to be commissioned in 2028.

The new infrastructure is expected to ensure natural gas supply to the TRNC and may play a broader role in the future. In particular, if new gas fields are discovered in the Eastern Mediterranean, the pipeline and related infrastructure could be used to transport gas to Türkiye and further to European markets.

The project is seen as part of Ankara’s strategy to turn the country into a key regional energy hub connecting suppliers and consumers between East and Europe.

Experts note that the initiative carries not only economic but also geopolitical significance, given the growing interest in Eastern Mediterranean energy resources.
