Starlink satellite internet by SpaceX, owned by Elon Musk, is now available in the UAE. The service operates via low-Earth orbit satellites (around 550 km), providing higher speeds and lower latency compared to traditional systems, and does not rely on ground infrastructure, allowing connectivity even in remote areas.
Prices for residents start from AED 230 per month for the Residential Lite plan, while standard packages cost around AED 300. The equipment kit costs approximately AED 1,545, with delivery taking 1–2 weeks. Business solutions are also available. Starlink antennas weigh less than 3 kg, have no moving parts, and are resistant to strong winds.
The service is already available in several Middle Eastern countries, including Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Jordan, Yemen, and Israel. In the UAE, the launch was preceded by regulatory preparations: in 2024, the company received a license for about 10 years, including maritime satellite internet services.
The technology is also being introduced in aviation. Emirates plans to equip 232 aircraft (Boeing 777 and Airbus A380) with high-speed internet. The first Boeing 777 aircraft with Starlink are expected in November, and by mid-2027 the entire fleet will be fully connected.
The first aircraft equipped with Starlink was Boeing 777-300ER A6-EPF, showcased at the Dubai Airshow. After the exhibition, it will operate its first commercial flight with the new system. Each Boeing will have two Starlink antennas installed, while A380 aircraft will have three, setting a world record.
Wi-Fi will be free for passengers in all classes on connected aircraft. Users will be able to stream videos, make video calls, work online, and use social media. Emirates has already begun deploying Starlink on its Boeing 777 fleet and plans to equip around 150 aircraft by the end of 2026. Full fleet connectivity is expected by mid-2027.
