In 2026, one of the warmest and most meaningful holidays in Türkiye will be observed on the following dates:
March 19 — Arife (eve of the holiday, shortened working day)
March 20 — first day of Bayramı (official public holiday)
March 21–22 — continuation of the holiday
What this day means
Ramazan Bayramı marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan — a time of fasting, spiritual reflection, and mindfulness. It is a celebration of compassion and unity, symbolizing the completion of an important journey and a return to life with renewed thoughts and intentions.
How the holiday is celebrated in Türkiye
The day begins with a special morning prayer (Bayram Namazı) in mosques. It is customary to visit relatives and elders, showing respect and appreciation. Children receive sweets and small gifts, which is why the holiday is also known as Şeker Bayramı (“Sugar Feast”). Charity, helping those in need, and reconciliation are important parts of the tradition.
Holiday atmosphere
Cities come alive with a festive spirit: streets are vibrant, families gather, and traditional sweets such as baklava are prepared. It is a time of hospitality, warm meetings, and strengthening social bonds.
