Various infrastructure and road development projects are being implemented in Northern Cyprus in the autumn of 2025.
New Children’s Playground in Geçitköy
Construction of a new children’s playground has begun in Geçitköy, initiated by the Lapta–Alsancak–Çamlıbel municipality. The area is being designed as a safe and diverse space where children can develop physically, emotionally, and socially. The work is ongoing and will continue until the project is fully completed.
Infrastructure Works on Piyalepaşa Street
Fırat Ataser, the mayor of Lapta–Alsancak–Çamlıbel, inspected the construction progress on Piyalepaşa Street, one of the most problematic areas. The project began in early August and is expected to be completed in the first half of November. The area belongs partly to Kyrenia and partly to Alsancak: LAÇ is responsible for infrastructure, while Kyrenia handles asphalt works. The main goal is to establish an effective rainwater drainage system to prevent flooding, renew water and telephone lines, and relocate communications under the sidewalks. The municipality is carrying out the work on its own, which reduced costs nearly by half compared to contractor proposals. The mayor thanked residents for their patience and noted that after completion, attention will shift to other districts.
Development of Kyrenia Nature Park
The walking zone of the Kyrenia Nature Park is set to open to the public in January 2026. Concerts were already held there during the summer, and pedestrian routes are now being finalized. The plan includes completing the entire park, including an adventure area and a small amusement zone. The municipality aims to steadily address problems caused by rapid population growth and the lack of public spaces, confident that the transformation will continue.
Improvement of the Area Near the Kyrenia Castle
Final works are underway to create a new recreation zone behind the Kyrenia castle. Infrastructure is completed, and surface installation has begun. The updated area will connect the historical Karakız zone with the promenade and become a modern public space featuring water and light installations. City officials emphasize that this area could once have been given for construction, but now it will become a new attraction point for residents and tourists.
Completion of a New Connecting Road in Kyrenia
The Kyrenia municipality announced the completion of the eastern connecting road leading to the Dr. Fazıl Küçük roundabout. It will allow drivers to reach a key transport point without passing through the city center. Soon, construction will begin on a road between Doğanköy and Eminaga, reducing traffic and improving access to major routes. Over the past three years, the city has implemented several major transport projects: new junctions were built, the exit to Çatalköy was renovated, smart intersections were introduced, and the entrance to Karakum was expanded. Authorities highlight that they will continue working at the same pace.
School and Urban Infrastructure Improvements
Kyrenia municipality has completed the construction of two new classrooms at the Şehit Hasan Cafer Primary School. Due to population growth, the city requires two additional primary schools — in the east and west. Authorities also propose relocating Anafartalar High School outside the central area, building a modern campus, and converting the old school site into a park and underground parking. Up to 20 million pounds sterling is planned for these projects in 2026–2027, provided the facilities remain public property. The municipality calls on the government for cooperation.
Vehicle Fleet Expansion in Çatalköy–Esentepe
The Çatalköy–Esentepe municipality has expanded its fleet by acquiring a new excavator, two special vehicles, and a garbage truck. The purchase was made using the municipality's own funds with support fr om the Turkish Coordination Office KEİ. According to mayor Ceyhun Kırok, the upgrade will improve the efficiency of public services and enhance infrastructure and cleanliness in the region.
Construction of a New Park in Ozanköy
A major new park project has begun in Ozanköy. It will include a themed children’s playground inspired by the local “Little Rome,” walking paths, rest areas, a café, and outdoor sports facilities. Opening is scheduled for next spring. The park aims to address the shortage of green areas and improve the quality of life.
Road Reconstruction Leading to the New Prison Complex
Northern Cyprus Minister of Roads and Transport, Erhan Arıklı, inspected roadworks on the route to the new Central Prison Complex in Haspolat. With support from Türkiye, road modernization is progressing across the island. The renewal of the main road between the Hamitköy roundabout and the Değirmenlik junction has been completed. The main 2.6 km road section between the prison and the Hala Sultan Mosque is now open. Work continues in the industrial zone, wh ere the remaining 1.6 km is being repaired. The minister emphasized Türkiye's and the engineering teams’ contribution to improving the durability and quality of road infrastructure.
