Dubai to Build the World’s Tallest Metro Station
Dubai continues to impress with ambitious infrastructure projects. In 2029, a new metro station developed by Emaar Properties will open in the emirate — and it will be the tallest in the world, standing at 74 meters. Designed by global architecture firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill (SOM), the station will be part of the new Blue Line of the Dubai Metro, a $4.8 billion project.
The station will span approximately 11,000 square meters and accommodate up to 160,000 passengers daily. Forecasts predict that by 2040, daily passenger numbers will exceed 70,000. According to Emaar Properties, the design reflects the “grandeur and vertical elegance” of their signature developments. The station will serve as a landmark gateway to the Dubai Creek Harbour.
Other Metro Updates in Dubai
Jebel Ali Station on the Red Line will be renamed National Paints. This change follows a 10-year naming rights agreement between Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and National Paints, a leading regional coatings manufacturer.
The Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station will undergo a major expansion. Its area will grow from 6,700 to 8,500 square meters, increasing hourly passenger capacity from 7,250 to 12,320 — a 65% rise. Once completed, the station is expected to handle up to 220,000 passengers per day.
