Dubai Airport Is the Busiest in the World
In 2024, Dubai International Airport (DXB) once again confirmed its status as the world’s busiest international airport, handling a record-breaking 92.3 million passengers. This marks a 6% increase compared to the previous year and surpasses its previous record set in 2018. DXB outpaced other major hubs including London Heathrow, Seoul Incheon, Singapore Changi, and Amsterdam Schiphol.
According to Airports Council International (ACI), total global passenger traffic reached 9.5 billion in 2024 — up 10% from 2023 and 4% above 2019 levels. DXB played a major role in this growth, serving over 106 airlines flying to 272 cities worldwide. The most popular destination was India, accounting for around 12 million passengers.

Dubai authorities continue to invest heavily in aviation infrastructure. A new passenger terminal is planned at Al Maktoum International Airport, with an estimated cost of AED 128 billion (around $35 billion). Once completed, all operations will be transferred from DXB to Al Maktoum, which is set to become the world’s largest airport, capable of handling up to 260 million passengers annually.
These achievements highlight Dubai’s strategic importance as a global aviation and tourism hub.
