A large-scale reconstruction of Atatürk Street is about to begin in Alanya

In the city council hall of Alanya an information meeting took place, dedicated to the upcoming six-stage project for the reconstruction of infrastructure and the surface section of Atatürk Avenue. The works will begin in November under the management of the Alanya Municipality. The mayor of the city, Osman Taryk Özçelik, presented the details of the project and answered participants’ questions.

The first step towards the comprehensive reconstruction of infrastructure and the above-ground part of the road from the Dinek interchange via Atatürk Street to the Tosmur interchange has been taken. The first stage of the project will start between the Luna Park and the Alaaddin Beach Hotel, and the works will be completed by the 2026 tourist season.

At the meeting attended were the deputy mayors, members of the city council, representatives of political parties, department heads, district muhtars, representatives of companies and public organisations, as well as members of the press.

Mayor Osman Taryk Özçelik noted that Atatürk Avenue — one of the city’s main transport arteries — had not undergone major repairs since the 1980s. The state of the utilities has reached a critical point. Water mains and electrical lines are outdated, which leads to constant breakdowns. Infrastructure renewal cannot be postponed any longer.

The project provides for the replacement of all engineering networks — water supply, electricity, natural gas and internet communications — in order to avoid repeated excavations in the future. Works will begin on the section from the memorial of Alaaddin Keykubat to Turkmenbashi Street.

Deputy Mayor Murat Levent Koçak stated that eight major infrastructure companies, including ASAT and energy services, are involved in the project. He emphasised that uniting different organisations and coordinating their work schedules was not easy, but this will prevent repeated repairs and ensure comprehensive modernisation.

The municipality also takes into account the development of the railway network — internet and electrical lines will be moved under the sidewalks, and the central dividing strip will remain free for future rails.

The project will be implemented in stages and will continue until spring 2026. Completion of the main works on infrastructure and landscaping is planned for May so that by the summer tourist season, Atatürk Street will be fully transformed.

Mayor Özçelik emphasised that temporary inconveniences are inevitable, but the renewed motorway will become the basis of modern urban infrastructure. There may be traffic jams and difficulties, but this is a step into the future. Residents should not drink water from 50-year-old pipes or remain without electricity in summer. This project is essential for Alanya, and the municipality asks residents to understand the possible temporary inconveniences.

At the end of the meeting the mayor noted that the reconstruction of Atatürk Avenue will become one of the key investments in the city’s future.

New large-scale road and urban communication reconstruction projects are yet another confirmation that the city is comfortable for relocating to Turkey and living by the sea. Here not only tourism is developed, unlike many coastal regions. In Alanya obtaining residence permits and citizenship through real-estate purchase is available.
